Worth Abbey School, West Sussex

Refurbishment & Heritage

Overview

Tullys has been working since 2003 with both Worth Abbey and Worth School across a variety of renovation and new build projects. These have included a three-phased scheme to provide new dormitory accommodation to an extensive refurbishment of the Abbey Church.

Complex Refurbishment Works

To enable redevelopment of the choir area of the church, Tullys detailed a complex arrangement of temporary works and underpinning to re-support the chapel walls while the existing choir floor was lowered. For a new Social Centre, a specialist steelwork structure design enabled the use of a large arched ceiling light, running the length of the building.

Tullys has successfully taken the Stage 3 design prepared by others and value engineered the structure to provide meaningful savings in the reinforcement quantities and through rationalisation of columns sizes. In addition, we redesigned the basement slab to the Heath Centre by substituting a raft foundation for the previous piled solution, working closely with a specialist geotechnical engineer.
